Objectives

This workshop aims at inspiring scientific researchers to get most out of their working time by giving them insight in the principles, techniques and methods of time management and personal organisation, and inspire them to put these into practice. At the end of this 3 days workshop, participants will be able to:

- Use deadlines instead of undergoing them
- Live up more to their priorities
- Forget less
- Create peace of mind
- Bring more structure to their working habits
- Comply more to the clean desk principle (i.e. the ‘perfect’ mess)
- Recognise time wasters and react more adequately to them
- Handle interruptions more effectively
- Comply better to their responsibilities through better follow-up
- Say “no” when needed but in an assertive and constructive way
- Keep e-mail and social media under control
- Communicate more efficiently by e-mail while staying organised
- Take full advantage of their (electronic) agenda

Method

The course is conceived as an interactive, practice oriented workshop during which the trainer will make his points using clear examples, exercises and tests and participants will apply the concepts and techniques dealt with to their proper professional situation by means of interactive dialogue, group discussion and homework.
The course material consists of a workbook wherein participants can take notes as they see fit, including a list of reading material referring to interesting books and websites as well as a number of templates & checklists that help them to get organised. Participants will also establish their own list of tips & tricks and exchange ideas with the other participants. This list is designed to become an instrument for self-evaluation to be used and consulted even long after the class is ended.
Finally there are these memo cards: pdf documents with all the schemes and checklists from the PowerPoint presentation that are send by e-mail after class and can be printed selectively in the desired format too keep the learning points ‘in view’ (e.g. by means of bookmarker or poster).
At the end of each day, participants will fill out their personal action plan to remind them of things they learned in class and wish to put into practice. Participants can always consult the trainer by e-mail for further advice, discussion and coaching.

The course is offered online due to Covid measures.
