Abstract

All we have to do is set the goal, then list the steps to get there, order them, and assign tasks to people and get on with it. Then review progress and adjust the plan as required. All sorted.

Except life happens: interruptions, distractions and human disruptors. Then we face decisions, deadlines, overwhelm or slowness and our own changeable moods, as well as collaborators whose expectations compete for our time.

So, in this very hands-on workshop, we get to grips with tools that can help you to feel more in control, calmer and more like the captain of your own ship. We’ll explore prioritisation, goals and taming your to-do list. We’ll navigate boundaries, focus, expectations and saying no, and help you get things done.

Objectives

By the end, you’ll have begun to:

•        Steady your state of mind to make conscious choices

•        Set motivating goals (beyond SMART)

•        Prioritise and diarise what matters and drop, defer or delegate the rest

•        Say no, negotiate boundaries and expectations, and structure these critical conversations

•        Create focus, minimise disruption, and deal with common obstacles

•        Use effective approaches to email

•        Benefit from shared good practice
