Residential seminar 2022

The Event

On October 27 and 28, we organized the twelfth edition of our two-day Residential Seminar for the students Business Administration with Taxation as main subject. Armed with a suitcase full of tax knowledge, 46 tax students hit the road to Knokke at the Belgian coast.

In addition to the students, we also welcomed many enthusiastic representatives from seven consulting firms (A. Coppin & Atacs, Deloitte, EY, Mazars, PwC, Titeca Pro Accountants & Experts and Vandelanotte) in Knokke.

Each of the seven participating firms drew up a realistic business case and subsequently supervised a team of 6 or 7 students working on their case. On the second day, the student teams presented their final result to a jury of Ghent University lecturers as well as experts from the field.

After long deliberation by the jury, chaired by prof. dr. Isabelle Verleyen, the group supervised by Mazars took home the trophy. Once more congratulations to the winner!

As most of these students will soon be entering the labour market, the event also focused on their prospective job search. On October 11, a pre-seminar was organized in which Conessence (i.e. a local recruitment agency) gave a guest lecture on finding one’s way on the job market for tax students. The session was filled with tips and tricks for drawing up a CV and going through an application procedure. During the two-day seminar, these tips and tricks could be put into practice by means of mock interviews and informal networking moments with the participating firms.

For us, it was also a pleasant reunion with many alumni who once participated in the event as students and now experienced it as a representative of one of the participating consulting firms.

We look back on a successful edition for the students, the participating firms as well as for ourselves! On to next year!
