Residential seminar 2023

The Event

On November 16 and 17, we organized the thirteenth edition of the two-day Residential Seminar for our master students Business Administration – Taxation (Handelswetenschappen - Fiscaliteit). Armed with a suitcase full of tax knowledge, 53 students hit the road to Knokke at the Belgian coast. Building the bridge between education and practice was our mission.

Each of the six participating firms (CBFin, EY, KPMG Belgium, Titeca Pro Accountants & Experts, Vandelanotte, and Vialto Partners) supervised a team of 8 or 9 students working on a realistic business case. On the second day, the student teams presented their final result to a jury of Ghent University staff as well as experts from the field.

After long deliberation by the jury, chaired by prof. dr. Isabelle Verleyen, the group supervised by Vialto Partners took home the trophy. Once more congratulations to the winner!

As most of the students will soon be entering the job market, the event also focused on their prospective job search. During the afternoon session on Friday, students engaged in mock interviews with representatives from the six firms; While waiting for their next interview, students were entertained by an ITAA (Institute for Tax Advisers en Accountants) representative providing them with insights into the challenges and procedures in becoming a chartered accountant/tax adviser.

For us, it was also a pleasant reunion with many alumni who once participated in the event as students and now experienced it as a representative of one of the participating consulting firms.

We look back on a successful edition for the students, the participating firms as well as for ourselves! On to next year!
