Question & answer
What is your research about?
My research lies at the intersection of European integration, democratic governance, and contemporary affairs in Central and Eastern Europe. It includes publications on the European Union’s enlargement policy, capacity building, and public administration reforms in accession candidates, as well as security and democratic developments in Ukraine and other countries in the region. Using a variety of research methods and data analysis techniques, I explore how values, identities, perceived threats, and other contextual factors shape European integration and related public attitudes - both within and beyond the EU.
Why the interest in that subject?
For decades, the European project has stood as a model of peaceful integration, democracy, and shared prosperity - a story that has inspired many countries to pursue reform in hopes of joining the EU. Today, that vision is challenged by Russia’s military aggression and the alarming rise of authoritarian populism across Europe and the world. These developments reveal just how fragile democracy and peace truly are.
My aim is to foster a better understanding how European integration works and how it responds to threats and opportunities in an increasingly complex and unstable global environment.
What hidden talent do you have?
I enjoy repairing things: bicycles, computers, phones, clothes, furniture, etc.
