Biography

Kathleen Van Craenenbroeck graduated in 1995 as a Master in Biochemistry at Ghent University. From 1995 to 2000 she did her PhD in the Laboratory of eukaryotic gene expression and signal transduction, Department for Molecular Biomedical research in the Faculty of Sciences at Ghent University – VIB, followed by several post-doc positions in the Faculty of Sciences at Ghent University and at the Center of Addiction and Mental Health at the University of Toronto.
On the first of October 2016 she joined the laboratory of toxicology. In that position she coordinates the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) group. The goal of our studies is to understand the molecular mechanisms that control the efficacy and the selectivity of GPCR signalling. Thereto several projects aim at describing, on a molecular level, the link between ligand binding and signalling efficacy in specific pathways. We study regulatory processes such as receptor phosphorylation, ubiquitination and endocytosis controlling responsiveness. In addition, we analyse and try to define the role of protein-protein interactions, more specifically GPCR dimerization.
