Biography


Pharm. Elisa De Pauw graduated as pharmacist in 2018 from Ghent University where she obtained her master in Drug Development in 2018. For her Master’s thesis, she evaluated in vitro assays to determine the pyrogenicity and the haemolytic potential of illegal peptides at the Scientific Institute for Public health in Brussels. In 2018,  she started her PhD research on co-spray drying.

Summary of Research Project(s)

The poor flowability of spray dried particles makes them often seem insufficient to allow direct compression, since there is a risk of segregation during blending steps. Co-spray drying, simultaneous spray drying of API and excipients, eliminates a blending step and empowers successful manufacturing of tablets via direct compression in a continuous way. Co-spray dried particles can be engineered to have the specific properties required to allow high speed tabletting. In this doctoral research, the potential of co-spray drying followed by continuous direct compression will be evaluated for conventional formulations comprising a crystalline API, and for solid dispersions.
