Stuttering Research Group Ghent

Exploring how minds and emotions shape stuttering and speech disfluencies – working toward better understanding and treatment.

Our Research

Research at the Stuttering Research Group aims to advance the understanding of factors contributing to childhood stuttering, speech disfluencies, and treatment efficacy, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the lives of people who stutter.
Our work focuses on elucidating cognitive and emotional processes through the application of diverse methodologies, including interviews, questionnaires, behavioral paradigms, and psychophysiological measurements.

Research lines

1. Speech disfluencies and stuttering in culturally and linguistically diverse populations
2. The role of attention and executive functions in developmental stuttering
3. Examining temperament, emotional reactivity, and regulation in stuttering development and persistence
4. Exploring client, caregiver, and therapist factors in stuttering assessment and treatment

Populations studied

We focus on stuttering, cluttering, and typically developing children, adolescents, and adults, both with a monolingual or multilingual background.
