Sport facilities
The GUSB is Ghent University's sports centre at Watersportlaan 3 in Ghent. It has a 25-metre swimming pool, an instruction pool, and five indoor halls. Students and staff train at a reduced rate, and the swimming pool is also open to visitors from outside the university.
Swimming pool temporarily closed
Due to unforeseen technical work, the swimming pool is closed until 11 October 2026. Multi-entry cards will be extended automatically when it reopens.

What you can do here
The GUSB offers aerobics, badminton, basketball, CrossFit, diving, fitness training, group running, handball, hockey, judo, karate, krav maga, five-a-side football, rugby, swimming, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, water polo and yoga, among others.

Booking and access
- Swimming pool: no reservation needed. Come to the cash desk during opening hours.
- Sports halls: book a single session by e-mailing sportonline@ugent.be, or read how to make a reservation.
- Check availability of halls and courts in the GUSB booking system.
- Visitors from outside the university are welcome at the swimming pool at the standard rate.
Competitions
Ghent Students league (GSL)
The recreational student league in Ghent. Put together your team and play mini-football, basketball, or volleyball in a community where fair play comes first.

Flemish and Belgian student competitions
Ghent University teams compete against other Flemish higher education institutions through Studentensport Vlaanderen, and against Flemish and Walloon institutions through the Belgian University Sports Federation (BUSF).

Inter-faculty competitions
The Inter-Faculty Tournament takes place in late October or early November. Competitions run throughout the academic year in five-a-side football (men and women), basketball, volleyball, badminton and judo. Your faculty's sports praeses has the details.
Adapted and elite sport
The GUSB offers adapted sport for students with a disability. Students competing at elite level can get individual support and counselling, including a flexible study programme.
