Katrien De Wilde

Katrien De WildeKatrien De Wilde received in 2023 her Master’s degree in Educational Sciences (Track Orthopedagogy and Disability Studies).

She is working as a research assistant on the DANS2-project. This interdisciplinary researchgroup studies restrictive and repetitive motor behaviours in children with autism. During the first phase (DANS1) a smart sock was developed that detects movements like toe walking and axis spinning. DANS2 focuses on further validating that sock for young children with (a suspicion of) autism. As a research assistant Katrien helps with data collection in the HomeLab (simulated home environment) and during home visits. She also assists with the processing of the data. With the DANS-study we contribute to better detection of early autism signs and more precise referrals for a diagnosis.

Katrien also works for a home support service for people with autism. There, she supports families with young children that have (a suspicion of) autism in stimulating their development.
