“Walk on”: A health psychology perspective on physical activity in fibromyalgia
Breaking the Activity-Avoidance Cycle in Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia patients often avoid physical activities due to pain and fatigue, creating a damaging cycle of inactivity and worsening symptoms. Understanding how to help patients maintain and recover physical activity despite these challenges is crucial for improving their quality of life. We are using innovative real-time diary methodology (Ecological Momentary Assessment) and single-case experimental designs to study goal and self-regulation. By understanding these patterns in real-world settings, we're developing evidence-based strategies to help fibromyalgia patients break free from the activity-avoidance cycle and maintain healthier, more active lifestyles.
