Short bio:

Joke Verstuyf graduated with a MSc in Clinical Psychology from Ghent University in 2007. She obtained a PhD in Psychology in 2014, focusing on the motivational dynamics underlying eating regulation and their role in healthy and problematic eating behaviors, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Maarten Vansteenkiste (Ghent University). She also earned a MSc degree in Quantitative Analysis in the Social Sciences from the Hogeschool-Universiteit Brussel.

During her doctoral years, Joke developed a growing interest in humanistic and process-oriented approaches to behavior change and human development. She invested in several postgraduate psychotherapy trainings, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT; ACT-Academy, 2012–2013), Integrative Psychotherapy for Adults (University of Antwerp, 2014–2018), Emotion-Focused Therapy (Focus on Emotion – KU Leuven, 2018–2022), and Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapy (Focus on Emotion – KU Leuven, 2025–2026). She also completed a postgraduate program in clinical supervision in psychology and psychotherapy (University of Antwerp, 2024–2025).

Joke currently works as a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist for adults in a rehabilitation center, where she provides both individual and group therapy to patients with diverse medical and bodily symptoms and conditions. In addition, she is a supervisor in the postgraduate program in Integrative Psychotherapy for Adults (University of Antwerp) and offers supervision to psychotherapy students in her own practice. She is a recognized supervisor at the Flemish Association for Client-Centered and Experiential Psychotherapy and Counseling (VVCEPC.be). Furthermore, Joke works as a teaching assistant at the Department of Experimental Clinical and Health Psychology at Ghent University where she provides teaching assistance for courses on motivational interviewing and medical psychology.
