Laura Van Beveren

In 2016 I joined the Culture and Education Department at Ghent University as a BOF research fellow.  Since october 2020 I am a postdoctoral assistant at the Department of Social Work and social pedagogy

I graduated as a Master in Social Work and wrote my final dissertation about "Social commitment in contemporary art: a rhetorical analysis of The New Forest by Wunderbaum" in which I was able to combine my academic -and personal- interests in culture and the arts, the rhetorical functioning of language and the different ways in which social change is pursued and created- both in the arts and in social work practice. In my Phd-research "Critical reflection in the social and behavioural sciences: a rhetorical approach." I will study how new rhetoric - and more specifically key concepts from the work of rhetoric Kenneth Burke- can function as a theoretical and methodological framework for educating reflective scientist practitioners. My focus will be on educational settings in social work, teacher education and psychology.

BOF-research fellow. Main focus: critical reflection, rhetoric, theatre.
