David Ongenaert
Biography
In 2015, I graduated as a master in Communication Sciences at Ghent University. After following the master after master Conflict and Development and several additional English and social science courses, I started in October 2017 as a FWO PhD fellow.
PhD Project
My research project investigates international refugee organizations’ public communication strategies towards refugee crises. I thereby pay particular attention to (1) the production process by means of interviews with refugee organizations, (2) the practices of representing refugees by applying a critical discourse analysis and a quantitative content analysis, and (3) citizens’, refugees’ and relevant journalists’ reception of public communication by conducting focus group and in-depth interviews.
