Burcu Korkmazer holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and a master’s degree (magna cum laude) in Gender and Diversity, both from Ghent University in Belgium. In 2017, Burcu started as a PhD student at the Department of Communication Sciences of Ghent University and a member of CIMS, the Centre for Cinema and Media Studies. She worked on a project funded by the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) about sexual morality and ethics in digital youth cultures. This project, under the supervision of prof. dr. Sofie Van Bauwel and dr. Sander De Ridder, explored the moral values of media-related reputation as negotiations of sexual politics.
