Administrative Law

The Centre for Administrative Law, led by Prof. Liesbeth Todts, is a specialised unit within Public Law at the Faculty of Law and Criminology of Ghent University. It conducts research and provides education across the broad field of administrative law, including both general and specialised administrative law, with a particular focus on:

-    the role of local authorities;
-    administrative decision-making;
-    administrative enforcement;
-    digitalisation in administrative law;
-    economic administrative law (including public procurement law);
-    spatial planning law and environmental law;
-    the impact of the European human rights framework and EU law on (national) administrative law.

Research and Collaborations

To this end, we conduct both fundamental research, for example through doctoral projects, and applied research that is policy- and practice-oriented.

We collaborate with research groups both within the faculty, such as the Centre for Environmental and Energy Law, ConstitUGent and the Human Rights Centre, and beyond the faculty, including the Department of Public Governance and Management and the Department of Accounting, Corporate Finance and Taxation at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration.

In doing so, we combine traditional legal research with research methods and insights from a range of other disciplines, including criminology, sociology, economics and business administration.
