Overview of our test infrastructure Coastal and Ocean Basin The Coastal & Ocean Basin wave tank in Ostend has been designed to study the effect of waves and currents on coastal and offshore engineering scale models, as well as the hydrodynamic behaviour of floating and marine renewable energy devices. Towing Tanks Ghent University has access to two advanced towing tank facilities dedicated to the study of ship manoeuvring in shallow and confined waters (owned by Flanders Hydraulics). Wave Flume Ghent University's Coastal Engineering Research Group operates two advanced wave flume facilities designed for experimental studies on wave dynamics and wave-structure interactions. Tribology, fracture and fatigue lab The Tribology, fracture and fatigue lab - or in short 'Soete Lab' - is a powerhouse in fatigue, fracture mechanics, tribology, wear, reliability, and durability testing. Test Rig for Energy-Efficient Electric Drivetrains & Components The large-scale test bench in Kortrijk is designed to test various combinations of drivetrain components and systems such as motors, generators, transmissions and power electronics up to 150kW, 6000rpm and 45kNm.
