The Marleen Temmerman Fund

Marleen TemmermanThe Marleen Temmerman Fund was established as a way for Ghent University to pay tribute to this inspirational academic, and to support the further development of the International Center for Reproductive Rights (ICRH), thereby contributing to the well-being of women and also of men, children, and of society as a whole. Because women can make a difference!

“Donations to the fund mean we can support research at the ICRH as well as projects in Kenya and Mozambique. For example, a midwife in Mozambique made a film about getting men involved in pregnancy and in childcare. It even won a prize at an international congress. This kind of thing would be impossible without the work of the Fund. I am surprised that we have received support from so many people and organisations. I would never have expected it.” - Prof. Marleen Temmerman

How your gift can make a difference:

  • Cervical cancer is the leading cancer-related cause of death for women in Africa, leading to over 250,000 deaths every year.
  • 30 million girls will be at risk of genital mutilation in the coming decade.
  • Approximately 50% of pregnancies are unplanned, and 25% are unwanted.
  • On average, 800 women die every day from pregnancy or childbirth.
  • Pregnancy is the most common reason why girls stop their schooling.
