Why study Geology
The education in Geology is organized by the Faculty of Sciences. This already illustrates the nature of the education: scientific courses, such as physics, chemistry and mathematics, are the cornerstones the education is based upon.
With specific techniques, based on these basic sciences, geology investigates the subterranean world. Geological knowledge is not only important because of the science itself, but has a multitude of practical approaches: the exploration of natural resources (ores, oil and gas, water, ...), the understanding and prediction of natural disasters (earthquakes and tsunamis, volcano eruptions, ...) and so on.
Bachelor of Science in Geology
The programme of the first and second Bachelor years provides you with a broad basic formation, with a major part of time invested in courses such as physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. These courses are after all necessary to create a basis for many of the geological applications.
Additional to the basic sciences, in the first Bachelor typical geological courses are already a part of the programme, which immediately introduces you to the study you chose.
Master of Science in Geology (Dutch programme)
In the Dutch Master in Geology students choose a professionalization by means of a long internship in a company or scientific institution.
Master of Science in Geology (English programme)
The English Master in Geology is mainly focused on research, with an emphasis on the acquisition of general academic skills, such as research and exploration, reporting, and contribution with fellow students and researchers.
Further study
After your studies in Geology you can obtain a doctoral degree in a research domain of choice, following your master study.
Those with a master diploma who want to continue studying can follow a master after master programme.
