PY-reactor

Description

Pyrolysis experiments are carried out in a fully controlled, semi-continuously operated set-up designed by G. Yildiz and W. Prins and constructed by Sustainable Process Technology (STP) laboratory of University of Twente (Enschede, The Netherlands). The pyrolysis set-up, namely; PY-Reactor, enables the production of bio-oil samples (typically ~50 g/run) suitable for a full characterization. Three types of biomass fast pyrolysis experiments can be performed in this system, viz. non-catalytic (sand as the heat carrier), in-situ catalytic (mixtures of sand and catalyst as heat carrier) and ex-situ catalytic (vapour phase upgrading via fixed catalyst beds) fast pyrolysis experiments.
