IWT Living Lab Renovation

The Living Lab Dwelling Renovation projects come to an end in 2019-2020.

For project Drie Hofsteden (Kortrijk), dynamic simulations were used to make a life-cycle cost analysis and to estimate the risk of overheating. The calorimeters allowed to compare the theoretical and actual energy use and to determine how much energy was saved.

Project De Schipjes (Bruges) was renovated using innovative materials: aerogel plaster, VIPs and monumental glass. Numerous measurements were carried out: various blowerdoor tests, U-value measurements and a coheating test. Here, too, dynamic simulations were used during design to estimate the energy need and the indoor climate in the renovated houses.

The umbrella project Knowledge Platform united the knowledge and experiences of the various Living Labs, which were bundled in several publications and a three-day closing event.
