WoodStock
We’re excited to announce the launch of the WoodStock website and our very first newsletter!
WoodStock is a Horizon Europe project coordinated by Ghent University, dedicated to developing climate-smart solutions for underutilised wood in the European construction sector. Running from 1 November 2024 to 31 October 2028, the project brings together 13 partners across 8 countries.
By using a Living Lab approach, and in alignment with the New European Bauhaus, WoodStock promotes sustainable building practices and supports the circular economy. The project aims to unlock more versatile and higher-value applications for underutilised wood resources in Europe — such as locally harvested hardwood, low-quality wood, damaged, post-consumer, and residual wood.
Researchers from the Building Physics (Faculty of Engineering and Architecture) and the Woodlab research group (Faculty of Bioscience Engineering) at UGent will focus on:
- Designing zero-waste products and building solutions
- Developing a robust dynamic Life Cycle Assessment (dLCA) methodology to encourage sustainable use of wood materials
Together, these efforts offer new pathways for a more ecological and circular future in the building sector.
