Failure analysis at Soete Laboratory
Failure analysis is a crucial component of developing products and improving systems since it not only allows us to learn from the past but also helps us avoid failure in the future.
Failure analysis is performed to determine the root cause of failure, typically with the intention of fixing problems from the past and prevent future occurrences by component improvement and development.
Given the high variety of possible reasons why components fail, experienced engineers and dedicated equipment are needed to identify the main cause. At laboratory Soete, an investigation program is set up by engineers in close collaboration with the customer.
An important first step of the analysis consists of a clear overview of the circumstances during failure, environmental conditions, service life, design data, application field… This way the program can be customized to the application and working conditions. The main purpose of the failure analysis is to determine how and why failure occurred.[EC1]
