Educational Quality Control Unit (KCO)

The Educational Quality Control Unit (= Kwaliteitscel Onderwijs, KCO) is responsible for the quality assurance of the education provided and is headed by the director of studies.

Among other things, the KCO is responsible for:

  • implementing the Ghent University quality assurance system at the faculty and supporting the study programmes with regard to educational quality assurance (e.g. institutional review, education monitors)
  • applying the educational regulations at faculty level (e.g. faculty supplements to the Education and Examination Code)
  • preparing for the Educational Quality Assurance Committee (= Commissie Kwaliteitszorg Onderwijs, CKO)
  • organising, analysing and discussing student surveys (course unit feedback)
  • analysing and discussing study programme feedback and surveys with regard to master's dissertations, alumni and lecturers with the study programmes.

The CKO meets monthly to discuss matters relating to quality assurance in education and gives advice on a number of dossiers before they are forwarded to the Faculty Council. Examples include: educational innovation, educational offer and study programme revision. Furthermore, the CKO is involved in initiatives related to future-oriented education, such as Apollo8, activating education and Blend@UGent.
