Do Tanks 2019

Do Tanks 2019

Bart Moens, the ASIL series

The goal of this do tank series is to get a better understanding of the lab and its infrastructure to conceptualize and conduct our experiments, ultimately learning you the skills so you can start working individually in the lab. The do tanks consist of 4 different sessions:

  1. Friday 15/2 - 1PM @ ASIL Labs: presentation about the main concepts and ideas behind the lab; followed by a short technological overview of the installed systems and the applications. After the presentation, we will start a hands-on session to get you started with the basics of the system: using the installed computer & KVM network, getting sound out of the system, connecting your own computer for a presentation or audio playback, connecting instruments and recording audio.
  2. Wednesday 20/2 - 10AM @ ASIL Labs: a tour of the different labs and technical rooms. We present in an-depth and more technological behind the scenes view of the equipment. The session will include a team of technicians from the cultural center The Minard,  Q&A session is included.
  3. Wednesday 20/2 - 1PM & Thursday 21/2 whole day: hands on session.  Want to try something out, test out a setup, got an idea, want to install custom software?  This is the time to test it out. I will help you understand how the system works and get it running.
  4. Friday 22/2 - 1 PM @ ASIL Labs: second presentation about more in depth topics: the dante audio network, the mocap, the KVM infrastructure, the 3D audio system IOSONO, ambisonics, the IP network, synchronization and data management. We will present technical schematics and how to read/use them. Based on the feedback, documentation & lab guidelines will be updated and printed versions will become available at the lab.

In the future, we plan to do do-tanks on regular basis to help accommodate experiments. Also, the lab is still in its development phase and changes/upgrades/new equipment can be made or installed during "low-experimental-seasons" (summer & winter).
