KB45 is present in the Bachelor- and Masterprogram at the department of Art History, Musicology and Theatre Studies
Bachelorprogram
Research Skills II (2nd grade)
This course aims to provide research skills in the field of Modern and Contemporary Visual Arts. To this end, the focus is on a subject within the visual arts of the twentieth or twenty-first century. The course is conceived as a research seminar. The emphasis is therefore not so much on lectures but on various tutorials and on developing a research assignment.
In the academic year 2020-2021, Research Skills II: Modern and Contemporary Visual Arts will be enrolled in the inventory and processing of the archive of the Plus-Kern gallery. This archive was recently donated by Jenny Van Driessche to the Ghent University Library. The inventory and processing of the archive is done in collaboration between the Ghent University Library and the research group KB45 (Art in Belgium after 1945). In other words, students are given the opportunity to make a concrete contribution to the operation and inventory of an archive from the start.
Masterprogram
Research seminar modern & contemporary art
This course, each time focusing on a specific topic of the visual arts of the twentieth or twenty-first century, is conceived as a research seminar. The emphasis is therefore not so much on lectures but on various tutorials and on developing a research assignment. Within the context of this seminar, there is also constant reflection on the way in which the research results can be given shape: in addition to a conventional academic paper, the research results can, for example, also be incorporated into part of a (virtual) exhibition with a scientific catalog text, room texts and labels.
In the academic year 2019-2020, the research seminar will be included in a research project about the 50-year history of the Frans Masereel Center in Kasterlee (https://fransmasereelcentrum.be/) This project is carried out by the research group KB45 (Art in Belgium after 1945)
