Bachelor in Applied Language Studies is a three-year academic course. Throughout the course you will study two foreign languages of your choice, together with a comprehensive study programme in the Dutch language.

The foreign languages on offer include

  • German
  • English
  • French
  • Italian
  • Russian
  • Spanish
  • Turkish (unique in the Flanders Region!)

Alongside your intensive study of these languages we will be expanding your overall expertise through such topics as law, foreign language acquisition and didactics, an introduction to cultural analysis and linguistic norms in Dutch. You will also immerse yourself in the rapidly evolving world of language and translation technology and digital communications.

During your bachelor's course you will spend one semester studying abroad, boosting your language skills and cultural knowledge. Thinking about your further development or considering a period of residence in a country other than your Erasmus destination? You can complete your bachelor's over four years (AEL), thereby studying for two years abroad.

Following your bachelor's finals you could choose one of three discipline-oriented master’s programmes: A Master's in Translation, a Master's in Interpreting or a Master's in Multilingual Communication.

Graduates aiming for a teaching career can opt for the Master's Degree in Education.

The course is taught in the Dutch language.
