'Judith of Flanders'-team of the Pirenne Consortium wins prestigious SciCom award - Help them win the Audience Choice Award!

(06-11-2025) Isabelle De Groote, Jessica Palmer and Steven Vanderputten win 2025 Royal Flemish Academy award for science communication

The Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium and the Young Academy of Flanders annually present awards to researchers with exceptional merit in science communication. The Annual awards are presented to researchers who have intensively dedicated themselves to a specific science communication project over the past two years. The awards underscore the importance of the connection between scholars and society.

Pirenne Consortium promoters Prof. Steven Vanderputten (History), Dr. Jessica Palmer (Archaeology, bio-anthropology), and Prof. Isabelle De Groote (Archaeology, bio-anthropology) will receive a 2025 Annual Science Communication Award for their impressive project, "Judith, a Carolingian Princess in Ghent?". Their multidisciplinary research achieved incredible exposure through an international exhibition, info clips, blogs, public lectures, educational modules, and media appearances.

The laureates (ten researchers or research teams) will be festively presented with the awards on November 19th 2025 at the Palace of the Academies in Brussels. More information & registration.
