Marie Verstappen is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Communication Sciences at Ghent University, where she is affiliated with the Center for Journalism Studies (CJS). Her work bridges the fields of journalism, media studies, and science communication, with a particular interest in how news and information circulate and transform across digital platforms.
Marie holds two master’s degrees: one in Professional Multilingual Communication from the University of Antwerp (2020) and another in Journalism from KU Leuven (2021). She obtained her PhD in Social Sciences at KU Leuven in 2025, where her doctoral research examined the remediation of news across (social) media platforms and explored the evolving dynamics of science communication on social media.
She teaches the courses Content and Textual Analysis (3rd bachelor), Contemporary Aspects of Journalism (Master), and Journalism in Perspective (2nd bachelor).
