Jingwen Qi graduated as a mast​er in communication sciences in 2017 at Lanzhou University in China. She obtained a grant from Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC).

She then obtained her PhD at Ghent University for which she researched news coverage about China’ soft power in the European media under the supervision of professor Sarah Van Leuven and professor Stijn Joye.
