Karin Raeymaeckers has been a professor at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences within the Department of Communication Studies since 2012. Her expertise is in the field of journalism studies and media structures. Since 2014 she is a member of the Board of Governors of Ghent University and since October 2015 she is Department Chair of the Department of Communication Studies.
Karin Raeymaeckers is a member of the international Euromedia Research Group and is editor of the Sage journal 'European Journal of Communication' together with Prof. Peter Golding and Prof. Helena Sousa. Furthermore, she is a member of the editorial board of several scientific journals and has published in a wide range of scientific journals. Together with Els De Bens, she published "De Pers in België".
