Lisa Colman

Status: Phd researcher

In 2017, Lisa Colman graduated as a Master of Science in Sociology at Ghent University. For her master’s thesis, she applied quantitative multilevel analyses to study the relationship between parental divorce and the development of adolescent externalising deviant behaviour within the school context. After these studies, she pursued a second master’s degree in Political Science (International Politics), which she obtained in September 2019. Her thesis focused on macroeconomic policy decisions during the European debt crisis and their connection to the rise of European populism.

Since September 2019, Lisa has been working as a teaching assistant at the Department of Sociology. In this role, she teaches seminars in quantitative research design, coordinates several courses, supervises students in individual and group projects, and supports the organisation of exams.

Lisa is currently preparing her doctoral dissertation under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Piet Bracke and Dr. Katrijn Delaruelle. Her PhD focuses on educational inequalities in the use of psychotropic medication from a medicalisation perspective. It combines empirical studies based on large-scale Belgian and European data sources and applies advanced quantitative methods, including longitudinal and multilevel modelling.

Her broader research interests include the sociology of health and illness, medicalisation, pharmaceuticalisation, mental health inequalities, and the institutional embeddedness of psychotropic medication use.
