About us

The Ghent European Law Institute (GELI), is part of the Faculty of Law of Ghent University, and is integrated in the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence (JMCE). It receives financial support from the European Institute, which was founded by prof. Marc Maresceau in 1988.

Apart from teaching on the different aspects of European Union law, we research recent developments in the EU integration process. Specific attention is devoted to EU external relations law with a particular focus on EU enlargement and the relations between the Union and its neighbours.

A comprehensive collection of books and scientific journals about the different aspects of European law and the European integration process can be found in our library. Since 1987, the library is part of the network of the European Documentation Centers (EDC) of the European Union.
