Arnout started his research at PaInT in 2011, where he became an assistant. His research focusses on Forward Osmosis (FO), which is a membrane filtration technology using the spontaneous process of osmosis to induce water flux through a membrane from a feed solution to a draw solution; the latter being a watery solution with a high solute concentration and thus a high osmotic pressure.
The focus in this research is on two aspects of FO, being the transport of trace organic contaminants through FO membranes and on draw solution regeneration when using thermolytic draw solutesby means of distillation.
