Heeft uw hond een carcinoom (bv. plaveiselcelcarcinoom, adenocarcinoom, mammacarcinoom...) die voor chirurgie in aanmerking komt en wil u meewerken aan wetenschappelijk onderzoek?
De behandeling gaat door in de Universitaire Dierenkliniek Kleine Huisdieren van de Universiteit Gent.
Procedure:
- Ofwel wordt de Nanobody-kleurstof vlak voor de operatie ingespoten, ofwel wordt de Nanobody-kleurstof na chirurgische wegname van de kanker op het wondbed gesprayed.
- De verdoving zal dezelfde zijn als bij honden die chirurgie ondergaan en niet aan het onderzoek deelnemen.
- De chirurgische benadering zal dezelfde zijn als bij honden die niet aan het onderzoek deelnemen.
- Het operatienveld zal met een speciale camera worden belicht. Op een beeldscherm zal dan duidelijk worden waar de kankercellen zich bevinden omdat ze zullen oplichten (fluoresceren).
- Nadat het tumoraal weefsel werd verwijderd, zal het wondbed opnieuw worden bekeken met de speciale camera en zullen eventuele resterende fluorescerende cellen worden verwijderd.
Zonder eigenaren zoals u is het onmogelijk om nieuwe behandelingen te ontwikkelen die het welzijn maar ook de levensverwachting van uw viervoeter verbeteren. Wij stellen uw bijdrage aan de vooruitgang van de diergeneeskunde ten zeerste op prijs. Deelname aan dit onderzoek zal ook helpen om deze toepassing tijdens chirurgie bij mensen verder te verbeteren.
Deelname aan deze klinische studie verloopt op vrijwillige basis. Vooraleer uw hond aan de klinische studie kan deelnemen, moet u een schriftelijke verklaring ondertekenen. Als dank voor uw medewerking bieden we u het histologisch onderzoek en de eerste consultatie gratis aan.

Does your dog have a carcinoma (e.g., squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, mammary carcinoma...) eligible for surgery and would you like to participate in scientific research?
Treatment goes on at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Ghent University.
Procedure:
- Either the compound will be injected just before surgery, or it will be sprayed on the wound bed after surgical removal of the cancer.
- Anesthesia will be the same as in dogs undergoing surgery and not participating in the study.
- The surgical approach will be the same as in dogs not participating in the study.
- The surgical field will be imaged with a special camera. A screen will then show where the cancer cells are since they will light up (fluoresce).
- After the tumor tissue has been removed, the wound bed will be imaged again with the camera and any remaining fluorescent cells (possibly cancerous) will be removed.
Without owners like you, it is impossible to develop new treatments that improve the well-being and the life expectancy of your four-legged friend. We greatly appreciate your contribution to the advancement of veterinary medicine. Participation in this study will also help to further accelerate the application of this technique during surgery in humans.
Participation in this clinical trial is voluntary. Before your dog can participate in the clinical trial, you must sign an informed consent statement. As a token of appreciation for your cooperation, we offer the histological examination and initial consultation free of charge.
