Clinical Study for Cats with Mammary Cancer - Information for owners
The care your cat will receive
Standard surgical care
Your cat will undergo routine tumour removal, just like any cat receiving mammary gland surgery at our Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
Innovative therapy
In addition to standard treatment, your cat will receive the investigational therapy (GCN2-IN-6) that will need to be administered orally before and after the surgery.
Close monitoring
Apart from you as an owner, veterinary specialists will follow your cat throughout the study to ensure their comfort, safety, and well-being.
Preclinical studies at the Small Animal Department demonstrated that this therapy is well-tolerated by cats, with little to no side effects nor with any relevant changes in any blood parameter.
Benefits and Impact
Potential benefit for your cat
Participation may help to lower the risk of tumour recurrence and/or tumour spread (metastasis).
The novel drug will be supplied without any additional cost.
Advancing feline care
Your cat’s involvement contributes valuable information toward developing new cancer treatments to increase the life expectancy for cats.
Helping humans too
The insights gained from this study in cats could pave the way to initiate clinical trials in people with aggressive breast cancers, including TNBC.
Your Contribution Makes a Difference
Without caring owners like you, advancing new treatments to improve the health and lifespan of pets wouldn’t be possible. By participating, you are making a meaningful contribution to advancements in veterinary medicine and helping shape better care for cats, today and in the future.
Voluntary participation
Participation in this clinical study is completely voluntary. In consultation with the responsible researchers, you may withdraw your cat at any time, without affecting future veterinary care.
Where the study takes place
The study will be conducted at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Ghent University, Salisburylaan 133, B-9820 Merelbeke-Melle.
