In Peace to the World! (And Then Came War) - published in Dutch - slavists Pieter Boulogne (KU Leuven) and Annemarie Gielen (Pax Christi Flanders) give the floor to a dozen regional specialists and other experts to explore the cultural and historical layers of the Russian–Ukrainian war. Starting from the deeper causes of the conflict and the spurious arguments used by Russia to legitimise it, the book examines issues ranging from the much-debated derussification policy to the reception of Ukrainian refugees in Poland and the emigration of writers from Russia. It also analyses wartime propaganda in schools and cinemas, Russian public opinion, the effectiveness of Western sanctions, and the aspirations of Russian peace activists operating under today’s repressive conditions.

The book includes contributions by the following Ghent University experts:

  • “Van verscheurde maatschappij tot verwond proza. Russische literatuur buiten Rusland na februari 2022”, Anna Namestnikov § Ben Dhooge
  • “Veranderd verleden. Hoe Russische schoolboeken de geschiedenis herschrijven”, Piet van Poucke
  • “De zin en onzin van de sancties tegen Rusland. Een economische analyse”, Koen Schoors
