Biography
Els De Bens is Professor Emeritus in media and communication studies at Ghent University, Belgium. She founded MICT in 2004. She is still involved in several MICT-projects and she is active as a media consultant. Her main focus of research is media economics, mediapolicy and ICT.
Until February 2008 she has been chairing the Flemish Media Council and she still is a member of several mediapolicy commissions.
She has been active in several international, academic networks such as the Euromedia Research Group. Until 2008 she has been co-editor of the European Journal of Communication (Sage, London). She was a visiting professor in the US (Berkeley), Russia (Moscow), Germany (Nurnberg and Dortmund) and South Africa (Stellenbosch).
She takes part in several international expert evaluation commissions (Switzerland, UK, Netherlands, Germany and Portugal).
