Gill Van Impe, a Master’s student in New Media & Society at the University of Ghent with a strong interest in the intersection of technology and society, is involved as an intern in the Solid4Media project at imec-mict-UGent. His work, centered on user research, hopes to contribute to the development of Solid applications and a privacy dashboard, exploring the potentials of decentralized data storage known as Pods.

In addition to his internship, Gill is delving into the societal implications of implantable technologies through his Master’s thesis. He investigates their adoption and their portrayal in film and television, exploring both dystopian and utopian depictions.

Alongside these endeavors, Gill is tackling a course-related challenge involving Virtual Reality (VR) and Telenet The Park. This hands-on project allows him to apply his academic knowledge, furthering his understanding of VR technology’s potential impacts and applications.
