Wout Vermeir is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in New Media & Society at the University of Ghent, where his academic focus revolves around new technologies and data.

At imec-mict-UGent, he is engaged in data analysis within the disconnect-to-reconnect initiative, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Mariek Vanden Abeele. In addition to data analysis, Wout possesses a keen interest in data visualization and translating academic research into accessible formats for diverse stakeholders.

For his thesis, Wout delves into another area of his interests: gambling sponsorship in football. His research aims to statistically assess the impact of gambling sponsorship on gambling behavior and attitudes, with a specific focus on the first division of Belgian football.

Moreover, Wout is actively involved in a university project exploring Virtual Reality (VR) in education, conducted in collaboration with Telenet The Park. He and his colleagues are investigating the feasibility of integrating VR technology into the educational setting.

Beyond his academic pursuits, Wout participates in the Samsung Talents Of The Future program, where he benefits from monthly extracurricular sessions conducted by industry professionals, further enhancing his skills and knowledge.
