Jonas De Bruyne is senior researcher at imec-mict-UGent, in the cluster of EMU Lab and is affiliated to both imec and Ghent University.
In 2021, he obtained his Masters degree in Theoretical and Experimental Psychology. After these studies, he worked as a PhD researcher at imec-mict-UGent where he worked on a host of projects in the broad domain of human-technology interactions. In the diverse research projects, he combined expertise and knowledge from human factors, psychophysiology, engineering psychology, virtual reality, behavioural science and cognitive psychology. He explored human-technology interaction in professional contexts from a cognitive ergonomics perspective: how people perceive and interact with technology in complex work environments, with a particular interest in the cognitive underpinnings of innovations. In 2026, he obtained his PhD degree in Psychology and in Communication Science with his dissertation entitled: CTRL+HUMAN: Toward adaptive operator support systems through cognitive ergonomics.
In his current role, he supervises and supports a range of research projects focused on human–technology interaction, addressing challenges from emerging wearable sensor technologies for monitoring and adaptive systems to personalized virtual reality training. A central focus of his work is the use of sensing technologies to measure cognitive processes and behavior, with the aim of understanding user experience and cognitive ergonomics and ultimately developing personalized, adaptive technologies.
