Faculty of Arts and Philosophy Library Tour
Welcome to the digital tour of the Faculty Library of Arts and Philosophy. Whether you're a student, a member of Ghent University staff, or simply a curious visitor, we're delighted to have you here. Enjoy exploring! The library team
One library, two wings
The Faculty Library of Arts and Philosophy has two wings, and both wings have an entrance, lockers and a circulation desk where you can borrow or return books.
Magnel Wing is home to collections in European and non-European languages and literature
Loveling Wing is home to collections in history, archaeology, anthropology, philosophy and art studies
The Faculty Library of Arts and Philosophy is located on Campus Book Tower, one of Ghent University's main academic hubs in the city centre. The campus takes its name from the iconic Book Tower, one of the tallest buildings in Ghent and a well-known city landmark (and it truly is a tower filled with books, as it is home to the University's Central Library).
This Library Tour
To learn more about our library services, collections and the occasional hidden gem, simply scan the Library Tour - QR codes for practical information. Each stop offers useful information, a tip, a story, or a little piece of library love waiting for you…
The accompanying floor plan shows all the stops on the tour and will help guide you through the library. You can find the floor plan at the circulation desks, or at the display stand in the main entrance hall (Rozier 44).
Whether you follow the tour in Magnel Wing or Loveling Wing doesn't really matter: both wings provide the same general information about the library, its collections, and its services.
There are, however, a few stops that are unique to a specific wing and therefore do not have an equivalent in the other wing:
Loveling Wing
- Periodicals
- Loveling reading room
- Course reserves
- Humanities Wunderkammer
Magnel Wing
- Faculty recording studio
- Special collections: Ex Libris Suse Esberg
Before you set off on your adventure, just remember two things:
- Bags and food stay in the lockers
- Silence is much appreciated in the library
