Joyce Stroobant graduated summa cum laude as Master of Arts in Advanced Studies in Linguistics from Ghent University in 2014, after which she joined the Center for Journalism Studies as a doctoral researcher in 2015 under the supervision of supervisor Prof. Karin Raeymaeckers. Her research focused on journalistic source use in health news, paying particular attention to challenges posed by the ever-increasing digitization of news coverage and the accompanying information overload. Given her focus on health, she was also a member of the Health, Media & Society research group. In her research, Joyce used methods such as quantitative content analysis, computational methods and qualitative in-depth interviews. Joyce was regularly invited to speak on online health news and fake news for academic and non-academic audiences.
