Mission
The Institute for Private International Law :
- aims to spread the knowledge of private international law, first and foremost by familiarizing the future lawyers with the judicial solutions to cross-border private relations.
- wants to contribute with fundamental research to the further development and critical evaluation of this area of law.
- contributes to a good understanding of private international law in practice by organizing conferences at regular times and by being a reliable contact for all persons seeking justice.

The Institute for Private International Law maintains close links with other research groups at Ghent University, such as the Centre for the Social Study of Migration and Refugees (CESSMIR) and the Human Rights Centre (HRC).
