Ombudspersons

Mission

You can contact the faculty ombudsperson with complaints regarding the implementation of the education and examination code and situations that are perceived to be unfair within the larger framework of educational or examination activities. For instance, a student may file a complaint if a lecturer does not adhere to the mode of study, the course content, the evaluation methods, etc., as described in the course unit’s course sheet. Other common complaints concern disputes about examination results, ambiguities regarding assignments and group work, the failure to provide promised course materials, the failure to give feedback, etc.

The faculty ombudsperson will first try to mediate  between the student(s) and lecturer(s) involved in order to work out a solution that is acceptable to everyone. In practice, many problems can be traced back to inadequate or misunderstood information and, once this has been rectified, they resolve themselves. In exceptional cases, mediation will not be successful and the faculty ombudspersons will refer the student to the institutional ombudsperson (i.e. the ombudsperson for the entire university) or inform him/her about the possibilities for appeal.

It is important to note that the faculty ombudspersons are also entitled to information about any assessment that is the subject of a complaint for the deliberations of the Examination Board. The ombudspersons participate in the deliberations as observers and may request a vote.
