Meet the VEG-i-TEC researcher - Bram Duthoo

(02-02-2026)

Bram is a scientific researcher on the Resilient VEG‑i‑TEC project, which supports food companies in advancing innovation while working towards their energy‑ and water‑related KPIs and a zero‑waste approach.

The research focuses on four pillars:

  •  Improving energy efficiency by valorizing residual heat and cold streams
  • Integrating renewable energy sources in a stable and process‑compatible way
  • Optimizing water usage and reuse through smart infrastructure
  • Developing intelligent Energy Management Systems (EMS)

Because the project operates as a smart food hub, close collaborations with companies translate these themes into concrete, custom research tracks. The resulting insights bridge scientific research and industrial practice, enabling companies to directly implement these findings within their own infrastructure. These insights support the sector in moving toward a more efficient, low‑waste and climate‑robust way of processing food.
