Index seminum

The Botanical Garden holds a collection of seeds (diaspores) of thousands of species. Harvested seeds are kept dry and dark in a refrigerator at 5 °C for two years. Long-term conservation is achieved at room temperature.

Each year a seed list or ‘Index Seminum’ is sent to some 500 botanical gardens all over the world. This document is available both as a booklet and in electronic format. It is strictly reserved for gardens which comply with the Convention of Rio de Janeiro (1992, CITES). Individual collectors are not eligible for this service.
