About us

Policy and mission

The department is very active in scientific research, in a wide variety of aspects and with a focus on interdisciplinarity. It also has a strong vision on the education of future archaeologists.

More about policy

Over the last years, the Archaeology programme at Ghent University is consequently ranked in the worldwide top 100. In 2018, the QS World University Rankings awarded our department a very nice 43rd place. We recognise the reality of rankings but do not deliberately strive for high ranking positions. A good position is the result of an internal focus on quality and excellence.
