Dr. Hermine Van Coppenolle

Dr. Hermine Van Coppenolle is a postdoctoral researcher with the Ghent Institute for International and European Studies. She holds a master in EU-Studies from Ghent University and was awarded the Marthe Versichelenprijs for her thesis in 2020. In 2024, she received the Best Paper Prize of the ECPR Research Network on Energy Politics, Policy, and Governance. She defended her dissertation Pledge, Review, Repeat: Understanding the Drivers and Constraints of Climate Ambition on the 3rd of September, 2025.

Hermine's research focuses on international climate policy and climate ambition, taking a closer look at the Paris Agreement, its institutional design, and its participants.
