Storage Mining Engineer | Fluxys

(21-11-2023) Storage Mining Engineer in Loenhout, full time position, permanent, onsite

Will you help us change the world?

Fluxys is an international energy infrastructure group with 1,300 employees active in gas transmission & storage and liquefied natural gas terminalling.

As a purpose-led company, we’re committed to fast-track the shift to a carbon neutral world. We explore new technologies and invest in infrastructure to accommodate hydrogen, biomethane, CO2 and other molecules for a climate neutral future.

For our underground gas storage facility in Loenhout (see the map here) we’re looking for a Storage Mining Engineer (m/f/x).

At our underground storage facility in Loenhout, natural gas is stored at depths that can exceed one kilometre. This storage capacity is sold to suppliers and producers to enable them to store natural gas. This gives them a flexible source of natural gas and allows them to build up a buffer to ensure the continuity of deliveries to end users.

Your responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for monitoring the underground geological layers (resulting from the storage of natural gas) and the proper functioning of the connection to these layers
  • You will use a theoretical model to monitor the condition of the geological reservoir. You will run simulations to take maximum advantage of commercial opportunities
  • You will play a key role in defining the activities required to maintain the underground installations
  • You will check that all operational and legal requirements are met at all times and will provide advice in good time should changes be required
  • You will serve as the point of contact for the external engineering firm (specialising in underground storage) and will work closely with the same to plan storage and the necessary projects
  • You will take on the role of project manager in projects linked to the underground installations and will work closely with the operational teams in this regard
  • You will report periodically on the state of the underground formations and installations to internal stakeholders and external government bodies

About you

As a purpose driven company, we foster agility and open-mindedness. Are you curious and astute? Do you approach your projects in an innovative way? Then we're keen to meet you!

  • You have a degree in civil engineering specialising in mine administration or a Master's degree in geology or have equivalent experience
  • Some professional experience, while not an essential requirement, would be an asset
  • You have sufficient communication skills to manage and motivate employees in the field and to efficiently provide information to senior management and support them in their decision-making
  • You possess sound analytical skills and a critical attitude that enable you to tackle technical problems correctly and efficiently
  • You pay close attention to quality and safety
  • You possess a flexible, stress-resistant mindset, allowing you to work well in demanding, often changing circumstances
  • You have a very good command of Dutch and French and a good grasp of English

Additionally, this role requires:

  • A category B driving licence

Why should you apply?

  • Contribute and innovate towards a carbon-neutral world.
  • Develop and shape a brilliant career in a fast-growing international group.
  • Showcase your strong appetite to contribute towards an array of dynamic projects that challenge your intellect.

Apart from that, we offer some interesting general conditions.
