Who was Willy Dekeyser ?

  • In 1950, he founded the Laboratory for Crystal Science, later renamed the Laboratory for Crystallography and Solid-State Studies, but better known as the ‘Dekeyser lab’. Now the lab is known as the Department of Solid State Sciences.​
  • He initiated research on solid state, semiconductors and defects at Ghent University and created a research environment pushing the laboratory to one of the top-level research institutes in the world. ​
  • The laboratory was strongly connected to the organization of the World Exhibition, organized in 1958 in Brussels.
